How to inject some festive fun into your digital marketing – without getting on Santa’s naughty list!

‘Tis the season to be jolly!

So lean into it and make the most of some sparkling digital marketing opportunities…

Here’s what you can do to spread the festive joy without hampering your website’s performance and finding your business on your customers’ naughty list…

Website banners

Create eye-catching banners that grab attention and add them to key pages like your homepage, sales pages, or contact us page.

You don’t need to add lots of JavaScript to make a big impact, keeping your website fast loading.

Think about the colours, especially. Red, white, green, and gold are so Christmassy and perfect for these banners. Look at your own brand colours and see if they can be adapted.

Use high resolution images to ensure the best look, and use images or graphics relevant to your business. Choose from snowy backgrounds, snowflake symbols, Christmas trees, and roaring fires in the hearth.

Whatever you use shouldn’t obscure your brand or brand messages.

Landing pages

Don’t just build landing pages for key offers and top sellers. Make them a festive and fun experience for your website visitors, with a sprinkling of Christmas magic.

Use compelling still images and video and make your copy light and bright.

Think about the emotion you want your page visitors to feel: nostalgia; comfort; peace; happiness; Christmas joy.

Tailor your images and words to help them feel what you want them to feel.

Sprinkle around classic Christmas graphics, too!

Fun emails

Who’s Santa’s favourite singer? Elf-is Presley, of course!

Those Christmas cracker jokes don’t have to be good, do they? It’s the groan of recognition that works!

Send a fun email or two to keep in touch and give your potential customers a smile.

This time of year is so busy, it can be so stressful, and people are naturally looking for small moments of joy in their day. Be one of them!

Merry Christmas video messages

Build your connection with your clients or customers by letting them see you and what you do, and giving them a fun Merry Christmas message from the team.

If the team loves a good carols sing song at Christmas, even better!

Here’s a final tip: make sure the images you use are optimised and not too large. You don’t want potential customers to feel like they’re waiting an age for Christmas to come as your website or email opens!

How much does a website cost?

Good question!

And as with many such questions, the answer is “It depends!”

Professionally built websites can start from around £500 for a very simple build but can easily head up towards £2000-£10,000+ for larger or more bespoke projects.

You need to consider what your website needs to be able to do in order to make it work well for your business.

Do you need a “shop window” that showcases your products or services and helps your clients to build confidence in your skills and quality?

Do you need a specific functionality such as a booking or payment platform?

How soon do you need your site to be ready?

All of these factors will be taken into consideration when your web developer puts together a quote for you. Best advice? Make sure you know what you want and communicate that clearly with your developer.

And if you’re not sure what you need yet, ask! If you can give your developer an overview of your business and what you want to achieve, they should be able to guide you on the kind of site that will best suit you.
